Respected Australian actor Kevin Miles died in Melbourne earlier this year aged 95.
The veteran performer passed away ‘peacefully’ at his home in the Mornington Peninsula on September 13, reported his nephew Barry.
Kevin was born in Melbourne in 1929 and worked in showbusiness for over 40 years, appearing in some of Australia’s most iconic TV shows and films.
His most famous role was opposite legendary actors Sam Neill and Meryl Streep in the 1988 Oscar-nominated movie Evil Angels, which dramatised the Lindy Chamberlain trial.
The veteran performer also appeared in many other renowned productions, including Division 4, Homicide, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo and Mission: Impossible.
He received a Logie nomination in 1984 for Best Lead Actor in a Series for his work in the period drama Carson’s Law.
His nephew Barry paid tribute to him online: ‘Kevin has received his final curtain call.
‘At the end of an extraordinary acting career spanning in his lifetime the world and in particular his favourite Melbourne.
‘An accomplished actor. A man of modesty, generosity, energy, a true trooper. Kevin died peacefully, content with having lived a full and meaningful life.’
Kevin was a classically trained stage actor and at the start of his career in the late 40s he toured the UK with the Royal Shakespeare Company, alongside Sir Laurence Olivier.
He retired from acting in 1997 following his appearance in the TV movie The Ripper, which dramatised the police investigation to catch Jack the Ripper.
Kevin spent his remaining years enjoying a well-earned retirement in the scenic Mornington Peninsula suburb of Rye.
He is survived by his nephew Barry.
Kevin’s death comes just a month after the passing of his Evil Angels co-star Peter Aanensen.
The veteran performer died on July 26, with his family only releasing news of his passing in August.
The silver-haired character actor appeared on many renowned Australian TV shows and movies throughout 50-year career, including playing Merv Poole on Blue Heelers.
He also appeared in the 2002 smash hit comedy Crackerjack opposite Mick Molloy and the 1999 movie The Craic with Irish comedian Jimeoin.
The charismatic actor was born in Melbourne in 1932 and began his career as a stage actor in the late 50s.
Aanensen guest starred in a wealth of iconic Australian shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including Sons and Daughters, Cop Shop and The Flying Doctors.
To international audiences, Peter was most recognisable for appearing alongside Hollywood legends Sam Neill and Meryl Streep in the movie Evil Angels, opposite Kevin.
His family paid tribute to him in a heartfelt statement: ‘He was a lovely, kind, down to earth man with a wicked sense of humour.
‘He loved musical theatre – we used to sing along with family and friends to the record player.’
Peter is survived by his three children, Kim, Leah and Karel.
