Local business owners and Enterprise Chamber of Commerce members joined Mayor William E. Cooper for a proclamation signing recognizing Saturday, Nov. 30, as Small Business Saturday in the City of Progress.
“Small business owners in Enterprise perpetuate the open and competitive marketplace so vital to our local economy,” Cooper said. “I want to thank our small business owners and all they do for our community and encourage everyone to shop local, not only this holiday season, but all year round.
Small Business Saturday (SBS) is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2024. The annual event, which was founded by American Express, takes place the Saturday following Thanksgiving, and encourages consumers to support small, local businesses. According to the U.S. Small Business Association, the reported projected spending in the United States from those who shopped at small businesses on SBS 2023 was around $17 billion.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. The owners, investors, and staff are our neighbors. Their children are in the same classrooms as our children, and they sit in the pew with us at church. Their goods and services are part of what makes Enterprise the vibrant community we are proud to call home.
When you spend your money at our local businesses, you are contributing to the success of and showing your support for local families,” Cooper said.
According to a National Retail Federation’s consumer survey, consumer spending is expected to reach an average of $902 per person spent on gifts, food, decorations and other seasonal items. Cooper encouraged all citizens to participate in the local deals and discounts available at shops and restaurants during the holiday season.
