However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Apple changed its last-minute plan to release the film in theaters to launch it directly on streaming. According to Watts, this change was a complete surprise, as it was done without any prior explanation or discussion.
The director, upset by the lack of communication, decided not to move forward with the sequel and returned the money that had been granted to develop it. In his own words, “Apple didn’t cancel the sequel to Wolfs, I did, because I no longer trusted them as a creative partner.”
