On a chilly, gloomy day, there’s no place like home, where you can unwind and indulge in a relaxing evening, far removed from the outside world.
One of the most fitting pastimes for those wintry nights is immersing yourself in a captivating book.
For book lovers, this is a regular and cherished activity. However, for those who aren’t avid readers, getting started can be daunting, given the vast array of titles to choose from.

Fortunately, a book enthusiast on TikTok, who has devoured nearly 150 books this year, has shared her top recommendations that you should dive into right away, reports the Express.
Lacey, known as LLD Library on TikTok, has impressively read 149 books in 2024 alone. Her account is a treasure trove of reviews, recommendations and book club ideas, attracting over 16k followers.
Earlier this year, she revealed some of her favorite five-star reads, stating: “I will tell everyone to read these books forever.”
Here are six books she suggests you add to your reading list today.
The Teacher – Freida McFadden
This book tells the “chilling story of twisted secrets and long-awaited revenge”, centered around teacher Eve and student Addie as they navigate a scandal at their school. Lacey was utterly gripped by the book, labeling it ‘mind blowing’ with a few crazy twists that’ll make it impossible for you to put down.
She gushed: “There’s no stopping you from finishing this book in one sitting, or staying up way past your bedtime to finish this book.”
At first glance, it might seem complex, but Lacey promises that once the puzzle starts coming together, the plot will consume your thoughts.

The Idea of You – Robinne Lee
This should be on every romance and spice lover’s shelf, as per Lacey’s review. She admitted being ‘absolutely infatuated’ with the male protagonist, applauding the ‘banter and overall sexiness of the book was just incredible.’
It tells the tantalizing tale of the steamy affair between icon Hayes Campbell of a world-renowned boy band and Solene Marchand, a mature woman and mother, highlighting the intense pull they share.
Adding to its allure, it was turned into a film earlier this year featuring Anne Hathaway. If you enjoyed the movie, diving into the original story is highly recommended.
When She Returned – Lucinda Berry
Horror and thriller enthusiasts, take note; Lacey insists this book deserves a spot on your queue for chills. Her take on it: “This is a very very scary yet interesting look into the life of someone who gets sucked into a cult.”
She confessed about the book: “This book had my heart pounding at the end.”
Berry’s thrilling narrative tracks the shocking return of a woman who vanished 11 years prior, a reunion that plunges her family into chaos, digging up skeletons and laying bare painful truths that lurk within familial ties.
Look Closer – David Ellis
For those who enjoyed the bestseller The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, this book comes highly recommended. Lacey even described it as ‘The Silent Patient on steroids.’
She said: “This book had me completely fooled. It is a bit lengthy, but it won’t feel like that, you’ll be hooked.”
Billed as a ‘wickedly clever and fast-paced novel of greed, revenge, obsession,’ it delves into the secrets that unravel when an ordinary couple, Simon and Vicky, find themselves embroiled in a murder.
Lacey warned: “Good luck going to bed after this.”
The Frozen River – Ariel Lawhon
A compelling portrayal of a real-life figure from late 18th century America, this narrative follows Martha Ballard and her demanding life as a midwife.
Lacey noted: “This book does have that historical fiction element but also does have some true components to it.
“And it has a little bit of a murder mystery. The romance between our main character and her husband is just so much fun.”
The Women – Kristin Hannah
This is another historical fiction featuring a powerful female protagonist, making it an ideal choice for those seeking empowerment.
Lacey shared: “This book is wartime, gory, it has moments where it’s very difficult to read some of the things in this book. But it gives you a glimpse into what life was like for the women of Vietnam, and also the men of Vietnam, the veterans in general.
“This book is, I think, my number one book of 2024 so far.”
