Punjabi film Jahankilla is a motivational film centred on the life of three Punjabi youths seeking government jobs. Having entered the police academy – Jahan Killa, as cadets training to become constables, the film focuses on the challenges the trio faces during the training before becoming successful. Shamsher Singh aka Shinda (Jobanpreet Singh) belongs to a poor family and joins the police force in hopes of becoming an IPS officer to help his family have a better future. He’s deeply in love with Simran (Gurbani Gill) and hopes to marry her, however, he faces challenges as her family wishes for her to marry and settle in Canada.
Alongside Shinda, the film also focuses on Sanjeev Kumar aka Sanju Double (Jeet Singh) and Ghamdoor Singh aka Ghabrati Baba (Jashn Kohli Ghabrati). The 2-hour-long film will take you down memory lane and remind you of the days you spent with your friends and how they went from being your yaars (friends) to becoming your bhras (brothers).
Vickey Kadam deserves a round of applause for highlighting the plight of the youth in Punjab in a manner that doesn’t seem preachy but is in fact enjoyable. From the premise to the end, the film will make you laugh, cry and even hoot for Shinda, Sanju Double and Ghabrati Baba to succeed and become more than just constables in the Punjab Police.
Talking about music, the film is complete with a mix of fun as well as emotional songs that are sure to make you both laugh and cry. Being Punjabi music, the tracks will even compel you to start swaying in your seat or even get up from your seat and break into dance. The background music too helps keep up the pace and vibe of the music.
Performance-wise, Jobanpreet Singh, Jeet Singh Panwar and Jashn Kohli Ghabrati have all done justice to their roles. They make you feel their pain as they struggle to prove themselves as worthy candidates to be part of the police force. Though Gurbani Gill has a small role, she leaves an impact.
