Forest Lake-based author Ryll Ganter is currently working on her third book, An Australian Woman’s Journey into Exotic and Dangerous Places, encouraged by the support of the local community.
Simple Bliss Café recently hosted story-times of her 2013 picture book, Friends of the Flood, while the Forest Lake and Inala wRriters club also played a role in her most recent publication.
Ryll published The Coffee Table Book for Mature Dating in December 2023, which she
worked on at the Forest Lake And Inala wRiters (FLAIR) club.
“I swear by the Forest Lake Writers’ Club,” said Ryll.
“We’re all very supportive of each other, giving tips and suggestions.”
She acknowledged the book’s title may be misleading, as she believes the book can apply to readers of all ages.
“The book is about my romantic experiences throughout my whole life, including my first divorce, which society frowned on at the time,” Ryll said.
“I’ve had wonderful feedback from men and women.
“Some readers couldn’t believe the situations that occurred, and other times, they said they laughed so much it was belly-aching,” she said.
Ryll regards her works as ‘footprints of the sand,’ which she will leave behind for her grandchildren, and encourages her readers to consider doing the same.
The 73-year old author is a year into writing An Australian Woman’s Journey into Exotic and Dangerous Places, based on her travels into countries such as Bahrain, Oman, India and the United States.
“I try to keep my books light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek, and not too heavy when I talk about these dangerous situations,” Ryll said.
“The latest one isa gift to my grandchildren, so they’ll always have that footprint of mine.”
Ryll expects the project to take another four years before completion but insists that doing so is of immense personal value, regardless of whether or not she ends up publishing the book.
“We all have a story to tell,” she said.
Recently, Ryll was paid to share her perspective with young people as part of an “everybody has a story to tell” program, which lasted 18 months.
“It’s an area that is so lacking in the education of young people, everyone lives their life day by day, ”said Ryll.
“My theme was we’re all obligated to leave our footprints behind, and my writings are strongly connected with everyone living their own story.”
