DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Families across the U.S. spend Thanksgiving with different traditions and moviegoing is one of those taking place alongside more traditional ones.
The parking lot at the local Cinemark was full, which could mean movies are becoming a popular option for celebrating Turkey Day and watching some Hollywood hits.
According to moviegoers, movie time today equals convenience for some and an opportunity to leave the house for others.
“I was excited to see Moana today, and I’d rather be here than at home,” said a child moviegoer.
“This is the main part of our Thanksgiving, but we’re going to go home and have a huge feast,” said a moviegoer.
For others, it means honoring old traditions or creating new ones.
“This is the first time we’re doing it, but everywhere we go, we try to spend more time with family and friends,” said a moviegoer.
“We just thought it would be something fun to do as a family. We’ve never done it before, and we’re not having Thanksgiving dinner until the evening,” said a moviegoer.
“For Thanksgiving tradition, we’ve been going to the movies for about 30 years,” said a moviegoer.
“I’m actually from this area, but originally from California. My wife is from Germany, so my family is 1,900 miles that way, and hers is 5,000 miles in the other direction. It’s just the four of us, and it seemed a little silly to make such a large meal for just us,” said a moviegoer.
No matter how you celebrate and what traditions you do, it is all about being thankful for those who experience them with you.
“We come to watch a movie and have some family time because the kids are about to go off and do their own thing. It’s kind of the last chance for us to do any family stuff,” said a moviegoer.
“I think it’s a great time to spend with your family, enjoy a great movie, and make memories,” said a moviegoer.
With so many new blockbusters in theaters, such as Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator 2, there’s something for everyone—making this festive season: showtime.
