In a bid to develop lesser-known destinations into iconic sites and to promote a more balanced distribution of tourists, the Union government has granted approval for developing two tourism projects in Goa.
The Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 97.46 crore for establishing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Ponda and Rs 90.46 crore for a proposed Town Square in Porvorim.
These two projects are a part of 40 initiatives that have been given the nod by the central government across 23 states. The Centre has approved an interest-free loan worth Rs 3,295 crore for the 40 projects. The fund will be used for development of tourism sites and infrastructure. The states are not required to pay interest on the loan for 50 years.
Expressing gratitude to the Centre for the nod given to develop the two spots in Goa into world-class tourism destinations, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the initiatives will offer tourists a unique experience.
“These transformative initiatives will significantly enhance Goa’s tourism landscape by offering visitors a blend of cultural heritage, modern infrastructure and unique experiences,” he said.
Sawant said the development does not only reflect the government’s commitment to promoting Goa as a premier global tourist hub but also opens up new avenues for economic growth and employment.
