MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — Mobilians flock to the stores for Black Friday deals, local businesses prepare for Small Business Saturday
Shoppers in Mobile flocked to the stores on Friday hoping to score great deals while local business owners prepared for Small Business Saturday.
Holiday shoppers say there was no shortage of sales and deals at the dozens of stores open this Black Friday.
“I’ve been out here for about 2.5 hours now. I have been going around. I just went to Academy. I went to Marshall’s. I went to Belk. I have been going all around just trying to find some good deals and just trying to make the most out of the day,” said Johnny Archard, a Black Friday shopper.
According to Archard, there was no shortage of shoppers either.
“They are all over the place,” he said. “It is dangerous. You might get stepped over if you’re not careful.”
In downtown Mobile, small businesses were preparing for one of their biggest days of the year.
“Usually this weekend, it is in the hundreds. Whereas on a good day, it is 50 or 60, but Small Business Saturday, and all throughout the holidays, it is in the hundreds. It is something that we love to have and have to have down here,” said Patrick Setterstrom, owner of The Vault Sports Apparel.
Small Business Saturday is a day that Setterstrom believes is critical for local businesses and the local economy.
“A lot of times these businesses, we struggle at certain times, and we thrive at certain times. This is definitely a time when we thrive, or we have margins that we have to hit and have to make, and it is because of our great customers that come down here and shop locally and shop small with us on Small Business Saturday. It allows us to do that,” he said.
The Mobile Chamber created a holiday gift guide to help shoppers find the perfect gifts from local businesses this Saturday and throughout the holiday season.
