DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – It’s time to start looking for Christmas gifts and there’s a way to support local businesses while doing it.
Small Business Saturday started in 2010 and is held the day after Black Friday.
The Small Business Administration estimates that $17 billion was spent last year on Small Business Saturday.
Cori Zaster, owner of Ritual Salad in Lincoln Park, said that November can be a rough month for businesses.
“It’s like summer shuts down and the transition between that and Christmas time comes and we just have one month, and trying to keep yourself relevant during that is incredibly important and also a very scary time,” she said.
So, she said that events like Small Business Saturday can help out businesses.
“And this is our chance to shine instead of Black Friday,” she said. “We put a lot of work into our community and it’s really nice when our community comes here for us.”
To celebrate, many small businesses are having specials.
Ritual Salad is having a BOGO half off any large size salads.
They also have giveaways.
Warrior Brewing Company, also in Lincoln Park, is joining in the fun and hosting a Winter Market with nearly 40 local venders.
Warrior Brewing held its first vendor market in October.
For Small Business Saturday, they will almost double the amount of vendors.
Anderson said that this event is a good time to do holiday shopping.
“The amount of vendors, the variety of vendors that will be here,” Anderson said. “I guarantee you’ll find a lot of gifts for your holiday wish list for people this Saturday.”
Other participating businesses are Duluth Coffee Company, Lake Superior Art Glass, and Lizzards Art Gallery.
A full list of participating businesses in downtown Duluth and Canal Park can be found here.
Warrior Brewing’s Winter Market will be on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
They will also have their own gift baskets for sale.
