ABILENE, Texas — Small Business Saturday is November 30 and many local businesses are having specials to celebrate.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, the yearly event is part of the busiest shopping season for small businesses.
The U.S. Consumers Report shows Americans spent an estimated $17 billion at small businesses on Small Business Saturday last year.
The City of Early states there are multiple ways to support small businesses:
- Shop at their business
- Like, share, and comment on their social media posts
- Post a positive review online
- Share a picture of a recent purchase you made at your favorite small business
Founded by American Express, Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across America.
Since its debut in 2010, Small Business Saturday has been celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes says there are multiple benefits from shopping local.
“By shopping small, you are not only supporting our local economy, but you are also contributing to the vibrancy and character of our community,” said Haynes. “Small businesses are the heart and soul of Brownwood, and they deserve our support.”
