RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Many people say they’re spending Small Business Saturday in Carytown to kick of their Christmas shopping; and the best part is, you’ll find things in Carytown that you can’t find anywhere else.
From clothes to jewelry and even furniture, people walked the strip to see what the shops in Carytown have to offer.
“ I think people still want to get their hands on touch things and just come in the store and support the local businesses,” GlassBoat store manager Jennifer Holloway said.
Holloway says all the inventory in GlassBoat is one of a kind.
“I bought a sofa here, gosh, 20 years ago, that I still have and still love it, so I thought I would come back and just look at some of the items they have,” GlassBoat shopper Jan Hatcher said.
Jan hatcher says she supports small business on a regular and encourages other people to do so too.
“I love just the unique individual items and service. I like the relationship building with shop owners, and I don’t enjoy the experience of the big box stores. I love the intimate feel of small businesses,” Hatcher said.
Some shops in Carytown say small business Saturday is something they look forward to each year.
“I feel like it’s really important just to kind of get our name out there. Not a lot of people know about small businesses in their area, so any way that we can get our name out there and promote is kind of a cool deal,” AlterNatives store manager Brian Blevines said.
Shoppers say the day gives them an opportunity to buy some of their favorite things, while also supporting the local economy.
“I’m trying to support local and I believe that’s important because we are neighbors and I think our resources need to be used within our neighborhood,” Small Business Saturday shopper Choi White said.
