The city of Alameda’s Base Reuse and Economic Development Department is partnering with the East Bay Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Alameda Chamber & Economic Alliance to provide no-cost, one-on-one business counseling. Owners can take their businesses to the next level with in-person advising sessions to help their Alameda businesses start, grow and thrive.
Appointments will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from Jan. 7 through June 17, 2025. From 12 to 4 p.m., 45-minute appointments are available and will be held in the Alameda Chamber & Economic Alliance office at 2215A South Shore Center in Alameda.
Services are offered to Alameda businesses in all development stages, from those just starting to existing businesses that are growing or in transition. East Bay SBDC advisors work with businesses in planning, funding, start-up, marketing, finances, management, growing and selling businesses. They also have specialized consultants in the areas of technology, international trade, government contracting and manufacturing.
In addition to one-on-one consulting, the East Bay SBDC will also offer business workshops to be tailored to the needs of the Alameda business community. Kiwanis chili cookoff fundraiser set for Feb. 1 at O’Club
Kiwanis Club of Alameda (KCA) officials are excited to hold the group’s annual chili cookoff fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Al DeWitt Officers Club (aka Alameda’s “O’Club”) at 641 W. Redline Ave. on Alameda Point. Featured will be chili tastings, a silent auction of merchant- and member-donated baskets, a full meat barbecue dinner and sides by Back Forty, live music, dancing, entertainment, and an auction/raffle for high ticket items.
Admission/dinner prices are $90 for adults and $40 for children ages 4 to 12. Beer and wine will be sold during the event. Major sponsors include Black Stallion Estate Winery, Edward Jones by Dominic McKenna, Faction Brewing, Poppy Bank, Eastside West Realty by Becky Cusack, Joe & Kathie Barker and the Park Street Tavern.

Ring in the new year with big band gala aboard USS Hornet
Celebrate the start of 2025 onboard the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum, a historic U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. This fundraiser for the museum will take place from 7 p.m. Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. Jan. 1 and will feature big band 3 O’Clock Jump with special guest Nick Rossi and his Swing Six Band playing for the numerous dance floors on the USS Hornet’s enclosed, heated hangar deck.
Also featured will be a silent auction and midnight countdown with the band. Parking will be free, black ties are optional and cash bars and food concessions willl available.
