STUTTGART, Germany—Bosch’s sale of its security and communications technology product business to investment firm Triton was a strategic move designed to focus on the company’s systems integration business, says Christian Fischer, deputy chairman of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH.
The divestiture of Bosch’s Building Technologies division’s product business for security and communications technology to the London-based Triton, which encompasses three business units – Video, Access and Intrusion, and Communication – was announced on Dec. 12, 2024.
Fischer, who is responsible for the Bosch Group’s portfolio management and oversaw the sale, noted the shift in Bosch’s focus toward the systems integration business as the main reason for pulling the trigger on the deal.
“You have to see this decision strategically,” he said. “Our Building Technologies division will focus on the integrator business in the future. In this business, we strive to continue our strong growth.”
As part of the realignment, the Bosch Building Technologies division will now focus on its regional integrator business, with solutions and services for building security, energy efficiency, and building automation.
A Bosch spokesperson explained that the goal of Bosch Building Technologies is to become a globally leading supplier of systems integration and to seize the “attractive opportunities” for growth in this segment. As a result, because of its importance for systems integration, the product business with fire alarm systems will be merged with the integrator business and continue that way going forward.
“Our aim at Bosch is to occupy a leading position in all the areas in which we operate,” the spokesperson stated. “While the product business has developed very positively and has a strong market position in several focus segments, heavy investments would have been needed to significantly improve its market position. We have decided against making these investments ourselves.”
In the case of Building Technologies, Bosch will focus on further developing and strengthening the integrator business, with the aim of becoming a leading systems integration provider and seizing the growth opportunities in this market. In doing so, the company aims to strengthen its services business, with an attractive share of recurring revenues and thus greater independence of cyclical fluctuations.
“As a manufacturer-independent systems integrator with a wide-ranging portfolio of energy and building solutions, the division intends to benefit in the future from digitalization and a growing customer demand for integrated, intelligent, and cross-domain solutions in the areas of building security, energy efficiency, and building automation,” the spokesperson concluded.
