Wantaway Marcus Rashford was nowhere to be seen as Manchester United’s squad travelled to London ahead of Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham.
Rashford, 27, made headlines on Tuesday by confirming that he’s ‘ready’ to leave the Red Devils, who he joined aged seven. Amid the striker’s lacklustre form, new United manager Ruben Amorim left Rashford out of his 20-man squad for Sunday’s Manchester derby alongside team-mate Alejandro Garnacho.
After the pair trained at Carrington this week, Amorim has recalled Garnacho to his squad but seemingly not Rashford. The 27-year-old wasn’t pictured as United’s squad gathered at an airport car park and then travelled to Stockport train station on Wednesday afternoon.
Garnacho, meanwhile, was spotted wearing a snood pulled over his mouth and a black beanie hat. The Argentine, 20, is set to be involved as United bid to reach the last four of the Carabao Cup, which they won in 2023.
Amorim told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday morning: “We have one more training But it’s the same situation of all the other players. If they train well then I have to make a choice. We will see see at the end of training. Of course [I expect a reaction]. I expect the best of each player every day so we will see after training.”

The build-up to Thursday’s quarter-final has been shrouded by Rashford’s comments which were made during a Christmas visit to his old primary school, Button Lane. “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Henry Winter quoted United’s academy graduate as saying.
“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
Rashford added: “On Amorim’s decision to leave him out against City, the academy graduate said: “It’s disheartening to be left out of a derby but it’s happened, we won the game so let’s move on.
“It’s disappointing but I’m also someone as I’ve got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I’m available.”
