If you like mystery, true crime, and Wordle, then you’ll definitely want to check out this national best-selling book series that was created by a native Arkansan.
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — You have probably heard of Wordle— but have you heard of Murdle?
“Murdle” is a national bestselling who-dun-it-style puzzle book created by Greg Karber who is an Arkansas native. Karber grew up in the Fort Smith area and attended the University of Arkansas.
He said both of his parents had careers in the legal system, which is what ultimately ignited his passion for mysteries.
Karber shared how it all started when he wrote the puzzles on napkins for his friend.
“I really was just procrastinating and was trying to send my friend something that I thought he would enjoy,” said Karber.
He then started putting those puzzles online for other people to enjoy, and it grew an audience from there.
The book follows Deductive Logico who investigates murders through humorous, mini-mystery puzzles
Last year, his first volume of Murdle was published, and it quickly became a best seller across the country. Now, there are two more volumes of Murdle with a spin-off for kids.
Karber said he did not expect the success that Murdle has amassed, but he has some advice for those looking to begin their dreams.
“Don’t wait for people to give you permission and don’t waste your time trying to convince people of that,” said Karber. “I think if I tried to pitch it as a book at first it would have been a hard sell, but once it was something people already liked it was a lot easier to get a publisher on board.”
A production company has now bought the rights to Murdle and it is now on its way to becoming a television show as crews are actively working on a script.
