Tourism revenue in 2024 is projected to reach €22 billion, marking a milestone year for the sector, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni noted Thursday.
Speaking at the annual conference organized by the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), the minister highlighted the tourism sector’s robust performance, emphasizing the sector’s direct contributions to income and employment, plus its vital role in supporting other key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, and trade.
Kefalogianni also addressed a strategy and initiatives for sustainable tourism development, noting Greece is becoming a global model of quality, authenticity and sustainability.
She stressed the importance of integrating sustainability principles into every aspect of tourism, including destination management, development of new specialized tourism offerings, and their promotion.
The aim is to minimize negative impacts while maximizing benefits for both society and the economy, the minister said.
