A YouTuber has been killed after being struck by a train while filming video content on a bridge in Thailand.
Wirot Arayankeht, 53, had been filming for his YouTube channel ‘Paid Nai Pai Kun Nam Mun Mai Tong Sai’ which means ‘Go Anywhere Without Petrol’ when he was struck by a passing train. At the time of the accident he was filming close to the Chulalongkorn bridge in Ratchaburi.
The YouTuber’s body was reportedly crushed and mutilated by the train. The driver said that he had ‘honked’ to warn the content creator that the train was coming but was unable to stop before he hit him.
Wirot’s body was dragged by the train for several metres, while his vlogging equipment was found scattered across the scene. According to Phusanika Chantharat, a police inspector at the Ratchaburi Muang police station, the accident occurred at around 8.20am.
The YouTuber created and shared videos across YouTube and Facebook that promoted cycling. His Facebook page has 2,700 followers, while his YouTube channel has 140 subscribers.
Video footage of the accident – which has been taken from CCTV – shows the cycling enthusiast placing his bike on the tracks at around 7.39am. According to his wife, the dad-of-one had dropped the couple’s daughter off at school before heading to the trainline to film a social media video.
Police found a video on Wirot’s phone that showed him speaking to the camera while stood near the railway tracks. The train driver explained to the police that as the train approached the bridge, he saw Wirot sitting on the tracks and sounded his horn as a ‘warning’ for him to move, but unfortunately Wirot was unable to get out of the way in time and the driver couldn’t stop the train before it hit him.
The Nation Thailand reported that the train struck Wirot and then dragged him for 50 metres before coming to a stop. The driver explained that once the train had stopped he got off and found Wirot crushed to death by the train. He immediately called his supervisor and the local police to report the accident.
Once Wirot’s death was announced, people were quick to comment on his Facebook page, with one user writing: “I would like to express my condolences, brother’.
