Settling down to watch a Christmas movie with the family is one of the most wholesome festive activities. There are plenty to choose from with timeless classics such as ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ to new releases including ‘That Christmas’ directed by Love Actually’s Richard Curtis.

Amazon Prime Video
Red One
A new movie released this year, Red One can be watched exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. After Santa Claus is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security must team up with a notorious hacker in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.
It stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, J. K. Simmons, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Nick Kroll, Kristofer Hivju, and Wesley Kimmel.
The Holiday
One of the classic Christmas movies, the story is about two women who trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) is a workaholic who owns a company that produces movie trailers in Los Angeles. Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) is a society column editor for The Daily Telegraph in London.
The 2006 romantic comedy follows the two women as they finds romance with local men but they soon realise that their imminent return home may end the relationships.
‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
The Grinch is a popular festive movie based on Dr. Seuss‘ beloved holiday classic. The movie tells the story of a green grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit.
Narrated by Anthony Hopkins, the film stars Jim Carrey as the eponymous character, with Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin and Molly Shannon in supporting roles.
It’s a Wonderful Life
This Christmas masterpiece tells the story of George Bailey, a man contemplating ending his life on Christmas Eve until an angel shows him what life would be like if he had never existed.
It’s a Wonderful Life is now considered to be one of the greatest films of all time and among the best Christmas films. It has been recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 best American films ever made.
Last Christmas
Featuring a soundtrack inspired by Wham! and George Michael’s hit songs, Last Christmas, is a heart-warming, funny and unexpected holiday romance that is full of surprises.
Emilia Clarke stars as Kate, a struggling singer working as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Her life takes a turn when she meets the charming and mysterious Tom (Henry Golding).

That Christmas
Released this year, That Christmas follows a series of entwined tales about love and loneliness, family and friends. It’s an unforgettable Christmas for the people of Wellington-on-Sea when the worst snowstorm in history alters everyone’s plans, including Santa’s.
An impress cast list including Brian Cox and Fiona Shaw makes up the heartwarming Christmas story. It is directed by Richard Curtis, famously known for Love Actually.
Klaus
Klaus is a 2019 animated Christmas adventure comedy film. When Smeerensburg’s new postman, Jesper, befriends toymaker Klaus, their gifts melt an age-old feud and deliver a sleigh full of holiday traditions. The movie won seven awards at the 47th Annie Awards. Accolades include Best Animated Feature, and also won Best Animated Film at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards.
The Christmas Chronicles
The story of sister and brother, Kate and Teddy Pierce, whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. The film stars Kurt Russell as Santa alongside Judah Lewis, Darby Camp, Lamorne Morris, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Oliver Hudson. It is the first of two instalments in The Christmas Chronicles film series.
Hot Frosty
A 2024 release, Hot Frosty is a romantic comedy film. Widow Kathy brings a snowman to life and his innocence helps her heal and find love again. They bond before the holidays, but he’s doomed to melt. On the review website Rotten Tomatoes, 85% of 26 critics’ reviews are positive. It has an average rating of 6/10.
Nativity!
A little white lie gets out of hand when teacher Paul brags that his movie producer ex will turn the school play into a film. The film stars Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen. The film was followed by Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger (2012), Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? (2014) and Nativity Rocks! (2018).

Deck The Halls
Two neighbours have it out after one of them decorates his house for the holidays so brightly that it can be seen from space. The hit movie is directed by John Whitesell. With Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis, Kristin Chenoweth starring.
