The time of year is upon us again when Home Alone finds itself on repeat on many TVs around the world as Christmas is just days away and we return to our favourite films of the festive season.
Few movies get more screen time over Christmas than Home Alone and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – the less said about the subsequent Home Alone movies, the better.
But some fans of the original pair of 1990s festive classics find themselves in disbelief as they are only just finding out how old the adult characters were when the film was released, The Mirror reports.

Catherine O’Hara, who played the mother of protagonist Kevin McCallister, was just 36 when she starred in Home Alone, for example, while one half of the Wet/Sticky Bandits Joe Pesci was 47 when he portrayed the criminal determined to get the better of the young boy who had been left at home for Christmas.
But perhaps the most remarkable age revelation comes with his partner in crime throughout the film.
Daniel Stern, who plays eccentric thief Marv in Home Alone, was just 32 when the movie was being filmed and had only just turned 33 when it premiered in theatres. Stern was born in August 1957 and Home Alone had its theatrical release in November 1990.
Fans of Home Alone, many of whom now find themselves in their early-to-mid 30s, couldn’t quite fathom how Marv was their age in the film.
One Instagram user commented: “He’s only 33! ? I’m 30 and he looks like he 50!” Another was equally baffled: “So he wasn’t in his 50’s?”
While another commented: “Marv looked like 50 though! “A fourth added: “Marv looked older cause he was hanging round with Joe Pesci.” “I always had thought he was 40-something in that movie,” confessed another fan.
Stern, who got his acting debut in 1979, is still best-known for his portrayal of bungling criminal Marv in both Home Alone and Home Alone 2, when he and Harry (Pesci) are repeatedly outwitted by young Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), resulting in an unforgettable slapstick classic.
