PHUKET, Thailand – Karon Police, in collaboration with Koh Phi Phi Police, apprehended an Austrian tourist on Koh Phi Phi, Krabi, after he allegedly caused the death of a Russian tourist by colliding with him while riding a jet ski at Karon Beach.
The incident came to light when locals diving for squid discovered the body of Mr. Kirill Kolovachev, 58, a Russian national, near the shore of Karon Beach, Phuket, on December 17. Witnesses confirmed that the victim had been struck by a jet ski. CCTV footage revealed that, in the evening, as the victim was swimming near the beach, a jet ski was seen speeding toward the shore, circling, and colliding with him before continuing on its way.
Investigators from Karon Police Station identified the Jet Ski driver as Mr. David, a 25-year-old Austrian tourist. After the accident, Mr. David reportedly traveled to Koh Phi Phi, Krabi. Authorities sought and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
The investigation team tracked Mr. David to a resort on Koh Phi Phi. Upon inspection, they found him in his room and arrested him under charges of reckless conduct causing death.
The victim, Mr. Kolovachev, tragically lost his life while swimming at Karon Beach. The suspect has denied the allegations and has been transferred to Karon Police Station for further investigation.
