New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: The Six Triple Eight, Juror #2, Laid + More
Tyler Perry’s latest film for Netflix, The Six Triple Eight, is out this week on the streamer. The film is the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, was the only predominantly Black unit in the Women’s Army Corps unit, who faced prejudice and segregation while deployed in Eurpoe. Kerry Washington stars as Captain Charity Adams in The Six Triple Eight, the Netflix film about a women’s Army Corps battalion comprised almost entirely of women of color who were sent to Europe in 1945. Tasked with delivering over 17 million pieces of backlogged mail to soldiers overseas, the women faced mortal danger in addition to segregation and racism while deployed. The film co-stars Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, and Kylie Jefferson with appearances from Oprah Winfrey and Susan Sarandon.
