A travel firm has reported that an Irish city has seen a huge increase in flight searches for 2025 compared to 2024. Kayak has listed its “top trending” destinations for the coming year as people look to book their next getaways.
The holiday experts’ list includes places quite far away from the UK that are relatively expensive to get to. These include Brisbane in Australia, where people have to fork out £1,417 on average for flights.
Melbourne is also on the leaderboard, and flights there cost £1,266. The next most expensive is Phuket City in Thailand, at £857.
Kayak says long-haul travel is on the rise, and some of the popular destinations are more expensive. In fact, Australia is the firm’s most expensive place to go next summer.
But there’s a silver lining: Prices in Australia have dropped by seven percent year over year, offering “better value” than before.
Kayak UK Travel Expert Rachel Mumford said: “Going long-haul is always exciting.
“Whether you’re heading to Australia for the beautiful long beaches or going off the beaten track in South East Asia, experiencing something new and different to home is the ultimate adventure.
“2025 is shaping up to be an ideal time to tick long-haul dream destinations off your bucket list without breaking the bank, with airfare prices currently dropping to iconic destinations like Australia, Japan, and Indonesia.
“Coupled with favourable exchange rates, travellers could enjoy even greater value for their money while exploring these incredible locations.”
Dublin, though, is also included on the list alongside far-flung destinations. The Irish capital saw an increase of 40% in in-flight searches for 2025 vs 2024.
A plane there would only set you back £122 on average. It is the cheapest to get to on the leaderboard, with Nice closely behind at £188.
Trip advisor says Dublin “blends old world vibes with friendly, down-to-earth charm”.
The site adds that it is a walkable city, so you can get a lot done in a day.
Experts suggest kicking things off by exploring the sights, such as St Patrick’s Cathedral and the “heart of the city” at Dublin Castle.
There’s also the Trinity College campus.
Trip Advisor also says: “There are tons of museums to explore (many, like the Chester Beatty, are free), and the food really caters to any budget or taste: You can dive into a tasting menu at one of the city’s 43 Michelin-starred restaurants or pop into a pub and get the best fish and chips of your life.”
