Barack Obama has unveiled his much-anticipated “Best of 2024” lists, highlighting his favorite movies, songs, and books of the year.
“I always look forward to sharing my annual list of favorite books, movies, and music,” he shared on his social media accounts.
Obama shared 10 movie recommendations, including several not yet released but already generating buzz as major awards contenders. His top picks include:

- The Piano Lesson (Netflix)
- The Promised Land (Hulu)
- The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Apple TV+)
- Dune: Part Two (Max)
- Anora (Available For Purchase on YouTube/Apple TV/Prime Video)
- Dìdi (Peacock)
- Sugarcane (Hulu/fuboTV)
- A Complete Unknown (Prime Video)
While the Oscars are still on the horizon, the Golden Globes recently announced their nominees, with Conclave earning six nominations, Anora securing five, A Complete Unknown receiving three, All We Imagine as Light and Dune: Part Two each earning two, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig claiming one.
With his initial post, Barack listed out his 10 favorite books from this year.
“Today I’ll start by sharing some of the books that have stuck with me long after I finished reading them.” He also encouraged followers to explore the selections, ideally through independent bookstores or libraries.
Among the books that made his list are Sally Rooney’s Intermezzo, Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation, Arlie Russell Hochschild’s Stolen Pride, Martin MacInnes’ In Ascension, and Alexei Navalny’s Patriot.
Other noteworthy titles include Samantha Harvey’s Orbital, Aysegul Savas’ The Anthropologists, Daniel Susskind’s Growth, Dinaw Mengetsu’s Someone Like Us, and Adam Moss’ The Work of Art.
On the music front, Obama’s top tracks for the year reflect popular trends, including Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Billie Eilish’s “Lunch,” Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” Hozier’s “Too Sweet,” Karol G’s “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” and Myles Smith’s “Stargazing.”
In his post, he encouraged followers to explore these songs to refresh their playlists and invited them to suggest tracks or artists he might enjoy.
