The immediate past Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Strategic Management Nigeria, Kenny Adenugba, publicly presented his two new books— The Banishment of Laburu and Gbankogbi Oro—on Thursday, December, 19, 2024 at the Julius Berger Hall, University of Lagos.
The event, which was a gathering of friends in solidarity with Adenugba, was filled with entertaining and insightful performances, including an invocation of traditional blessings by Titi Layinke.
While giving his speech, Adenugba thanked guests who took the time to honour him, saying, “I stand before you today filled with gratitude and excitement as we gather to celebrate not just the launch of two books but a vibrant history of our culture, stories and our voices. It is an honour to share this moment with all of you who have supported me on this journey thus far and those who are here today to celebrate with me.”
“Today we unveil The Banishment of Laburu, a collection of African poetry that seeks to capture the presence of our diverse experiences, and emotions of creations. Each poem is a friend to the rich family of our heritage reflected in the beauty and complexity of the African spirit.
“Meanwhile, the second book— Gbankogbi Oro— is the first of a series.”
He noted that the idea for the series came after he made a post that reached the editor of a Yoruba weekly newspaper and after some conversations with him, he ended up publishing weekly (article), and eventually decided to turn it into a series of books because “the wisdom of our fathers is so vast that we can’t exhaust them”.
Also speaking at the event, the National Organising Secretary and Acting Secretary General of Afenifere, Agagun Omololu, noted that the author needed all the support he could because of the hard work put into the publication of the books.
