GREENSBORO, N.C. —Triad native Jeremy Foil is among millions of Americans looking to avoid the holiday rush.
“Less crowded, less chaos, hopefully, less stress,” said Holiday Traveler Jeremy Foil.
That’s why Jeremy visited his family in the triad early and is returning to where he lives now.
“I came down to North Carolina to visit some family over the past few days and get a little of the chaos travel time a little bit before the actual chaos ensues next week,” said Foil.
Piedmont Triad International Airport has increased the number of available flights and seats to lessen the stress and chaos, as they expect to see over 70,000 passengers during the holiday period.
Our airport will be busy, and the impact will be felt across the country, especially in New York, where Jeremy is heading back to. He says there are benefits to flying early.
“It was cost-efficient, and then stress alone, it’s just so much less stressful,” said Foil.
But we’re told people will be heading to their destinations by car. AAA estimates this season will break records 3.5 million people will travel in their vehicles over the year-end holidays. That’s more than 100,000 compared to travelers this time last year.
To avoid holiday travel stresses, travelers should check their flight status before heading to the airport, check in at least 90 minutes before departing, and arrive at their boarding gate 40 minutes early.
AAA recommends knowing your route, staying up to date with traffic, following the speed limits, and only driving when alert.
According to Piedmont Triad Airport employees, the busiest days to fly out are Tuesday and Wednesday before the holidays and the following Sundays after the holidays.
