MUSCAT: Shatha Al Jabri’s entrepreneurial journey has propelled her venture, Meshan, to the pinnacle of business excellence as it clinched the coveted ‘Best Startup of the Year’ award at the TAS Business Awards held on the sidelines of the 4th edition of the TAS Conclave.
Shatha began her journey in 2011 during a time when job opportunities in Oman were scarce. Instead of succumbing to challenges, she turned to innovation, starting with a home-based venture producing Omani dates and sweets. Her unique recipes not only preserved traditional flavors but also introduced a distinctive twist, earning her intellectual property rights and setting Meshan apart in the Gulf region.
Within four years, Shatha expanded her vision into a café under the “Meshan” brand, which later evolved into a thriving catering business. By 2019, Meshan was producing over 2,500 servings daily, a testament to its growing popularity. In 2021, the brand further cemented its legacy with the launch of Meshan Restaurant in Nizwa, now a tourist hotspot celebrated for its innovative cuisine and warm hospitality.
Shatha attributes her success to perseverance, strategic market research, and customer-centric innovation.
Her accolades include the Best Entrepreneur Award (2014) from Bank Muscat and the Youth Excellence Award (2021), among others, solidifying her role as a trailblazer in Omani entrepreneurship.
Shatha’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs in Oman, showcasing how grassroots innovation and resilience can lead to national and international recognition.
