Iberdrola and ANAFRIC, the Meat Business Association, have signed a cooperation agreement to promote the electrification and emissions reduction of associated companies, facilitating the company’s experience throughout the value chain, and seeking collaborations that allow energy optimisation of the main energy-consuming processes of the associates.
The agreement, which was signed at ANAFRIC’s headquarters in Barcelona by its president, José Friguls, and Iberdrola Spain’s sales representative in Catalonia, Juan Miguel Bailón, will enable the association to offer the company’s wide range of comprehensive solutions to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions.
For Juan Miguel Bailón, this agreement with ANAFRIC ‘is another part of Iberdrola’s commitment to leading the energy transition, improving the competitiveness of our customers, a challenge that we undertook 20 years ago and which has made us a world leader in renewable energies. We are committed to the electrification of the economy, the promotion of green energies and technological innovation to guarantee a more sustainable future’.
For his part, José Friguls highlighted this agreement because it represents a decisive step forward in the sustainability of the meat sector. ‘At ANAFRIC we are fully committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities, and this collaboration will allow us to provide our member companies with innovative and efficient solutions that not only optimise energy consumption, but also strengthen our competitiveness’.
For the president of ANAFRIC, ‘electrification and decarbonisation are fundamental pillars to face the challenges of climate change, and from our association we want to lead this process with initiatives that benefit both the sector and society as a whole. We thank Iberdrola for its support and experience, which will undoubtedly be key to driving this change and strengthening the sector’s commitment to a more sustainable and responsible future’.
Decarbonising industry through electrification is essential to tackle climate change, use energy more efficiently and foster innovation, improving customers’ bottom lines.
In addition, electrification enables more efficient use of energy while enabling the implementation of more advanced control and monitoring technologies, resulting in more accurate and efficient management of industrial processes.
Greater efficiency and competitiveness
With this agreement, both entities will collaborate in the search for maximum efficiency in electricity supply, both technically and economically, addressing the different existing modalities that best adapt to each industry. To this end, members are offered the possibility of carrying out energy audits, as well as all of Iberdrola España’s technical knowledge for the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption projects, individually or collectively, and also those related to the decarbonisation of industrial heating and cooling processes.
In the field of electric mobility, Iberdrola offers ANAFRIC members a wide range of possibilities, including the installation of charging points for both public and private use, as well as the electrification of heavy transport, an area in which the company is leading pioneering projects already in operation.
Another of the highlights of the agreement is the energy savings certificates (CAE), in which Iberdrola España makes a direct payment to members for the energy savings generated, which serves to promote the return on investments. In addition, the company has its own Technical Office that it makes available to members to evaluate energy savings and carry out all the necessary procedures.
Thus, for an aerothermal system, a customer can benefit from a direct rebate of up to 20% on the initial investment, as well as benefiting from the resulting energy savings, and for those companies that require it, Iberdrola España provides the necessary information on the possibility of having green hydrogen projects, an area in which the company has already had installations in operation for years, such as the one set up together with Fertiberia in Puertollano or the hydrogen plant in Barcelona’s Free Trade Zone, which provides service to TMB buses.
The energy transition and independence from fossil fuels is nowadays a priority in society and the business fabric has a fundamental role to play in the coming years in order to meet the ambitious objectives committed to, both at national, European and international level.
