Kenyan entrepreneur Joseph Kairo Wambui, aka Khalif Kairo, has opened up about the challenges he faced running his car-imports business in 2024.
Taking to his social media platform, Kairo candidly discussed financial struggles, the need for strategic breaks, and his belief in overcoming adversity, drawing inspiration from Elon Musk’s early career hurdles.
Kairo talked about Musk’s pivotal moment in December 2008 when Tesla and SpaceX were on the verge of bankruptcy.
Kairo said that despite sinking billions into the companies, Musk faced personal and professional crises, including a divorce and the inability to pay rent drawing parallelism to his recent struggles.
“Sometimes you need a break from socials to focus. A complex problem like the one we are dealing with needs a lot of praying, work, and isolation. 2025 tutaingia na mpigo na Mungu atatupeleka mbali,” Kairo said.
Tough times for businesses in Kenya
The entrepreneur also hinted at financial difficulties following an ambitious business expansion this year.
He humorously admitted, “Nmesota kama prime Polo Kimani. Could do with anything between 1-10 million USD in exchange for stake or debt pale kaiandkaro.com or Jetman. It’s been a very tough year for businesses, and we happened to do a bit of expansion this year. Bad bet, but we shall recover.”
Kairo acknowledged the harsh realities of scaling a business, pointing out that success without financial struggles often suggests illegal operations or money laundering.
Khalif Kairo detained at Kasarani police station
Earlier, Kairo had been arrested and detained at the Kasarani Police Station on suspicion of defrauding a client of millions of shillings under the pretence of delivering high-end vehicles.
Kairo opened up about financial difficulties at Kai and Karo, attributing the challenges to online attacks and hard economic times.
The businessman claimed his competitors paid influencers to tarnish his reputation and cause panic following his arrest.
