Netflix is all set to spread some festive cheer with a sleigh full of new Christmas movies this year, perfect for the holiday season.
As folks gear up for holiday festivities, what better way to get into the festive mood than with a heartwarming Christmas flick?
Whether you’re a fan of timeless classics like ‘Love Actually’ or on the hunt for something fresh, Netflix has got you covered with multiple movies to watch with your friends. Here’s the lowdown on each film to help you pick your next snug movie night in.
Meet Me Next Christmas
‘Meet Me Next Christmas’ has already made its debut on the streaming service, featuring Christina Milian and Devale Ellis in the lead roles. The plot follows Layla, portrayed by Milian, as she dashes through New York City on Christmas Eve in search of a ticket to a sold-out Pentatonix concert, hoping to reunite with her dream man, played by Ellis.
Holidate
The movie starring Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey revolves around Sloane and Jackson, who are fed up with being single on holidays. They start out as two strangers, but they agree to be each other’s platonic plus-ones all year long, only to catch real feelings along the way.
While it has a 46% on Rotten Tomatoes, some audience members say it’s a fun movie for any time of year.
Hot Frosty
Another title ready to warm your screens is ‘Hot Frosty’, which spins a tale about a charming snowman that springs to life. Dustin Milligan of ‘Schitt’s Creek’ fame embodies the snowman Jack, who finds love with Kathy, depicted by ‘Mean Girls’ star Lacey Chabert.
“Two years after losing her husband, Kathy magically brings a handsome snowman to life! Through his naivete, the snowman helps Kathy to laugh, feel, and love again, as the two fall for each other just in time for the holidays … and before he melts,” reveals Netflix’s Tudum.
Single All The Way
The holiday romcom is a heartfelt story about Peter, who asks his best friend to pose as his boyfriend on a Christmas visit home. Their plan — and feelings — change when his family plays matchmaker.
Single All The Way provides a refreshing angle on the LGBT romance, with many saying it’s worth the watch.
The Merry Gentlemen
The Merry Gentlemen was released on Netflix this month, though it hasn’t been received well by critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Ashley is a former big city dancer who stages an all-male Christmas-themed review to save her parents’ small-town theater.
It stars Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson. Some reviewers said though the film has a predictable plot, its themes make it an uplifting flick.
A Bad Mom’s Christmas
A sequel to the popular movie Bad Mom’s, a group of stressed-out moms Amy, Carla and Kiki are back, and the looming Christmas holiday gets even more daunting when their mothers show up for a visit.
The 2017 film has an all star cast. The younger moms are played by Mila Kunia, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn, while their mothers are played by Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon. The laugh-out-loud comedy is great for the family.
Our Little Secret
The new movie starring Lindsay Lohan features a Mean Girls reunion. She graces the screen with former Co-star Tim Meadows, and they star alongside Pretty Little Liars actor Ian Harding.
The plot involves: “Two resentful exes (Lohan and Harding) are forced to spend Christmas under the same roof after discovering that their current partners are siblings.”
The Snow Sister
The aforementioned movies have revolved around romantic tropes, but this movie is better suited for families. The Snow Sister was released on Netflix in November. The Norwegian film is about a young boy whose grieving family has forgotten about Christmas.
He forms an unexpected bond with a girl full of holiday spirit.
That Christmas
The animated film is reminiscent of holiday classics like Arthur Christmas and comes from the same creator of Love Actually, Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
It was released on Dec. 4, and it follows “a series of entwined tales about family and friends, love and loneliness, Santa Claus making a big mistake,” according to Netflix.
