UI OTT Release: Upendra’s latest film arrived in theatres on 20th December and was received well by both audiences and critics. Produced by G. Manoharan, Sreekanth K. P., and Bhaumik Gondaliya under the banner of Lahari Films and Venus Enterrtainers, the dystopian action has reportedly locked a digital home. As per OTT Play, UI will be available on Sun NXT on or before January 30, 2025.

Other than Upendra playing a double role, UI also stars Reeshma Nanaiah, K. V. Anudeep, Sadhu Kokila, Vinayak Trivedi, Murali Sharma, Indrajit Lankesh, Nidhi Subbaiah, Om Sai Prakash, Guruprasad, P. Ravi Shankar, Achyuth Kumar, Hamsa Prathap, Neetu and Lasya Nagraj among others. Written and directed by Upendra himself, UI is edited by Vijay Raj B. G. and cinematography by H. C. Venugopal.
UI plot summary
In UI, set in a fictional world created by the director, the story follows a clever and extraordinary man who challenges the king of a town. Using his wit and masterful plans, he takes control of the town and becomes a ruthless dictator. The movie dives into how power, knowledge, and technology, when misused, can lead to chaos and destruction. What begins as a peaceful community is torn apart as the new leader manipulates people, dividing them by caste, class, and religion.
UI review
A part of The Hindu’s review read, “The film is quite weak on entertainment quotient. We miss the peppy numbers that match the vibe of Upendra’s quirky ideas. The set pieces in UI have a serious tone and don’t give the adrenaline rush we experienced in his yesteryear hits such as A (1998) and Upendra (1999). Apart from the twisted climax, the film is quite easy to comprehend, quashing the talks about the film being a mind-bending drama.”
