A brand-new year is almost here! As you look forward to a fresh start, the Weedsport Free Library is here to serve you. Our library can help you with your resolutions, new objectives, a habit to break, new things to try, or whatever your goals are for the new year. Consider a resolution to spend more time reading, reading from more diverse authors or listening to more audiobooks. Here are some suggestions on how the library can help you meet your 2025 goals:
Visit your local library to get a library card. Use your library card to access items at the library as well as electronic databases and digital downloads. The nine public libraries in Cayuga County are members of the Finger Lakes Library System. You can use your library card at any of the Finger Lakes Library System member libraries in Cayuga, Cortland, Seneca, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.
E-books and audiobooks have become increasingly popular. As a cardholder you have access to thousands of e-books and audiobooks that can be downloaded to your phone, mp3 player or e-reader at no charge. Download the Libby app on your device for access to digital downloads. Libby is used by millions of patrons worldwide!

Did you know the library has a Book Club? Joining a Book Club can be a great opportunity to spend time with others in the community, read diverse titles and discuss a variety of perspectives. The book selection for January is “Mrs. Quinn’s Rise to Fame” by Olivia Ford. Pick up a copy at our circulation counter and join us on Jan. 14. Our Book Club meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.
Join us for Senior Cinema at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. We will view “The Hundred-Foot Journey.” The movie centers around a character named Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) who is an extraordinarily talented and largely self-taught culinary novice. When he and his family are displaced from their native India and settle in a quaint French village, they decide to open an Indian eatery. However, Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), the proprietress of an acclaimed restaurant just 100 feet away, strongly objects. War erupts between the two establishments, until Mallory recognizes Kadam’s impressive gifts and takes him under her wing.
Our Writers Group continues to meet at 1 p.m. the first and third Mondays of the month. It doesn’t matter if you have been writing for years or are just beginning to dabble in writing; join in on the creative writing prompts and activities led by our talented group facilitator, Bart!
Story Time starts back up at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. This program includes early literacy fun with books, songs, fingerplays and body movement. This program is geared for ages birth to 3 years old. Caregivers are encouraged to participate. These sessions are a great way to introduce early literacy and a love for books and reading!
Lego Club will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. Legos are supplied. Let your imagination soar and bring your Lego brick creations to life while having fun with your friends! Legos are provided and participant creations will be on display in the library for at least two weeks!
The next session of Pokémon Club will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27. Come share your love of Pokémon with fellow fans! We’ll have a craft, coloring pages, computer activities and of course the trading card game! You can bring your own cards to trade, and the library has some you may play with if you don’t have your own. If you have something Pokémon-related you want to show and tell, you can do that, too! (We are also a gym in the “Pokémon Go” mobile game!) All Pokémon trainers ages 4 to 18 are welcome!
The Friends of the Library used book sale is ongoing. The book sale sort team puts out new items weekly. We have books on sale for all ages! Thank you for supporting the Friends of the Weedsport Free Library!
We look forward to meeting your library needs in the new year. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and successful 2025! Remember to give yourself credit for all you’ve accomplished in 2024! We’re in this together!
