Diving into the spooky season, authors are releasing new mysteries, magical romances and startling fiction. With a month centered around a specific holiday, books emerge with that theme at the forefront of the title. Here are six upcoming novels readers are excited about for October.
“The Boyfriend” by Freida McFadden

Freida McFadden is largely known for her award-winning thrillers, like “The Housemaid” and “Never Lie.” McFadden’s newest thriller revolves around a single woman in New York – Sydney Ward – with a bad dating history and possibly an even worse new boyfriend. When Sydney meets this new boyfriend, he seems perfect in every way until she begins to suspect clues that she will be his next murder victim. This will be an exciting thriller for those who love suspense and a side plot of romance.
“Revenge of the Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell
Release Date: Oct. 1
It has been nearly 25 years since Gladwell published his groundbreaking novel, “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference.” In his new sequel to the original work, Gladwell reframes some of the theories in the first book and introduces new ones that have come with this time. This is a new social era, and this author has compiled stories to share and scientific advice to give. While many people may have had to read the first novel for a class or to write an essay, it is highly encouraged that the sequel gets the same love, whether forced by a teacher or on your own time.
“The Last One at the Wedding” by Jason Rekulak
Release Date: Oct. 8
This novel follows Frank Szatowski, who has not spoken to his daughter, Maggie, in three years. When she calls him out of nowhere to invite him to her wedding, he is both shocked and pleased to have a chance to make amends with his daughter. The only problem is that Maggie’s fiance is evasive and strange, with a billionaire family who seems to have a poor impression on this town in New Hampshire. Frank has to figure out how to learn more about the future in-laws without showing Maggie that he does not trust her decisions. This is Rekulak’s second published thriller, following the very popular “Hidden Pictures.” Readers can expect another five-star from this novel.
“The Wedding Witch” by Erin Sterling

A third book to the renowned novels “The Ex Hex” and “The Kiss Curse” comes this month, and readers are excited. This novel follows Bowen Penhallow, the third Penhallow brother, who wanders the mountains of Wales and studies ancient magic, content with being on his own. Tamsyn Bligh is a procurer and seller of magical artifacts, a business Bowen has been a customer of very few times but made a lasting impression on Tamsyn and her dreams. When both of them get invites to the Witchy Wedding of the Century at Tywyll House, they see it as a way to acquire artifacts and research, until a spell takes them back to the Yuletide Celebration of 1957. The two must work together to figure out how to get home, hopefully without stirring any new feelings.
