SPRINGFIELD, MA. (WGGB/WSHM) – We have local reaction on Monday’s election certification from residents in our area and with 4 years come and gone since the riots on the Capitol.
We wanted to know: Have people been paying closer attention this time around? Western Mass News is getting answers.
You may be surprised how much of an impact that deadly insurrection had on people here in our region. 2021′s shock and sadness, maybe 2025′s sense of normalcy you would think it would make more people turn on the TV to watch, but survey says …maybe not.
“It was very weird to see,” Jake Dressler from Springfield told us.
“It was shocking,” noted Greg Robinson, also a Springfield resident.
Four years after a deadly insurrection at our nation’s Capitol during presidential election certification we heard from people like you.
“This is crazy. It was just a lot going on and attacking the Capitol, and I was like: is this the United States?” said Gary Dowd, from Southington, CT
Now, four years later we asked folks, ‘Did what you see in 2021…make you tune in to watch Monday’s certification of Donald Trump?’
“Yes and no,” explained Robinson
More people we spoke with tuned out.
“I think it’s a confusing thing to understand, I remember reading about and I really don’t think I understand it,” added Dressler.
We found there’s confusion on what exactly the process is.
“States have electors? Who are these electors?” asked Dressler
Others may understand, but they think there may not be as much frustration as last time.
“I’m not as worried, because the funny thing, when they lose it’s rigged and when it’s not it’s okay so, I expect it to be okay,” noted Dowd.
