SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) — South Korean government officials and experts have attended a U.S.-led virtual multilateral meeting on building a resilient quantum information science and technology (QIST) ecosystem, the foreign ministry said Thursday.
The second meeting of the Quantum Development Group (QDG), led by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, took place online Wednesday, joined by the government representatives of nine countries, including South Korea, the United States, Japan, France and Britain, the ministry said in a release.
Han Min-young, director-general for climate change, environment and science affairs at the foreign ministry, took part in the meeting.
The QDG was created by the U.S. in July last year to coordinate approaches with like-minded countries to promote resilience and reliability of the QIST supply chains, as well as research and development collaboration.
During the meeting, Han underscored the need to increase support to continue the momentum for QIST development as the technology is entering its commercialization stage.
Han also expressed hope for deeper cooperation with European Union (EU) members within the QDG, announcing that South Korea will participate in the Horizon Europe, an EU-funded research and innovation initiative for areas like climate change, quantum technology and artificial intelligence.
