By Horace Palacio: Belize’s tourism industry celebrated a landmark achievement in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels of overnight tourist arrivals recorded in 2019. Preliminary data reveals that Belize welcomed 562,405 overnight visitors in 2024, reflecting a remarkable 21% increase over 2023 and an 11.8% increase compared to 2019.
The surge in overnight arrivals underscores the resilience and dedication of Belize’s tourism stakeholders. March 2024 emerged as the standout month, attracting 69,202 visitors, contributing to the record-breaking performance. Eleven out of twelve months in 2024 surpassed their 2019 counterparts, signaling robust growth across the entire year.
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) attributed this success to collective efforts to enhance the visitor experience and promote Belize as a premier travel destination. In a statement, the BTB expressed gratitude to industry partners for their resilience and commitment during challenging times.
Looking ahead, Belize’s tourism outlook for 2025 remains bright, with plans to further elevate the visitor experience and attract even more travelers. The BTB reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable tourism and preserving Belize’s cultural and natural heritage while welcoming the growing influx of visitors to its shores.
