Srinagar, Jan 10: Paradise is bursting at the seams with tourists this winter.
Tourist footfalls continue to rise every day. In the first week of January 2025 alone, over 12,000 tourists visited the valley, marking an impressive start to the year. Hotels and houseboats are reportedly fully booked through January, indicating the potential to exceed last year’s record-breaking tourism figures.
The region’s allure was on full display during the Christmas and New Year holidays, but since then, both domestic and international visitor numbers have more than doubled. Popular destinations like Gulmarg and Srinagar are teeming with tourists, drawn by the valley’s enchanting beauty following two recent snowfalls.
An official noted that the snow-covered landscapes not only amplify the festive atmosphere but also provide a significant boost to the local economy, reinforcing Kashmir’s status as a top winter destination.
Tourism Department reported that 2024 concluded as one of the most successful tourist seasons, with a 10 percent increase in visitors compared to the previous year.
To build on this momentum, the department is focusing on developing 75 new tourist attractions, including heritage, cultural, Sufi, religious, and adventure sites, to further enhance the region’s appeal. In 2024, around 3 million tourists explored Kashmir, with a significant rise in foreign visitors, highlighting the growing global interest in the region. (With CNS inputs)
