Saturday Night—a comedy about the first episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live—is coming soon to Netflix.
Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, Saturday Night opened in theaters in limited release on Sept. 12, 2024, before expanding to a nationwide release on Oct. 11.
The logline for the film reads, “At 11:30 p.m. on October 11th, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. Find out what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live.”
Saturday Night stars Gabriel LaBelle as SNL producer Lorne Michaels, Matt Wood as John Belushi, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Lamore Morris as Garrett Morris, Emily Fairn as Lorraine Newman and Kim Matula as Jane Curtin.
The film also stars Nicholas Braun as stand-up comedian Andy Kaufman and Muppet creator Jim Henson, Rachel Sennot as SNL writer Rosie Shuster and Cooper Hoffman as SNL producer Dick Ebersol.
According to When to Stream, Saturday Night will debut on Netflix on Saturday, Jan. 25. Netflix also confirmed the release date on its streaming platform.

A Golden Globe Nomination Is Among ‘Saturday Night’s’ Awards Season Accolades
Saturday Night has received various notices this awards season, including a nomination for Gabriel LaBelle for Best Male Actor in a Comedy – Musical or Comedy from the Golden Globes.
In addition, the film earned a Best Acting Ensemble nomination in the film category from the Critics Choice Awards, as well as a Best Comedy Movie nod.
Box office-wise, The Numbers reported that Saturday Night earned $9.5 million domestically and more than more than $241,000 internationally for a worldwide box office tally of more than $9.7 million.
Per Deadline, Saturday Night had a production budget of $30 million before prints and advertising.
Rotten Tomatoes critics, meanwhile, collectively gave Saturday Night a 78% “fresh” rating based on 220 reviews.
RT’s Critics Consensus for the film reads, “Jazzed up by an excellent ensemble that captures the essence if not the exact likeness of SNL’s original cast and crew, Saturday Night is a frenetic and nostalgic celebration of one of showbiz’s most auspicious debuts.”
Saturday Night also earned an 84% “fresh” rating on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 500-plus reviews.
RT’s audience summary for Saturday Night reads, “An all-access pass to the chaos and minutiae behind the scenes, this account of the premiere that changed the history of television honors the talent who brought you: Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
Saturday Night arrives on Netflix on Jan. 25.
