Abu Dhabi: The UAE Tour has firmly established itself as a landmark event since its inception in 2019, combining sports and tourism to become a highlight on the nation’s annual calendar with wide international participation.
From February 6th to 9th, the world’s leading female cyclists will compete in the Women’s UAE Tour, navigating the stunning deserts and iconic cityscapes. Following that, from February 17th to 23rd, the men’s race will test riders’ endurance in the ultimate challenge.
The UAE Tour holds a prestigious status as a global sporting event, effectively promoting the UAE’s progress in various fields while boosting tourism both domestically and internationally.
The event showcases iconic landmarks such as Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Jebel Hafeet, Yas Island, Hatta, and other scenic attractions, underscoring the nation’s cultural and geographical diversity.
Strategic partnerships with global sponsors have played a pivotal role in enhancing sports infrastructure and attracting investments. These partnerships have also created jobs across sectors like logistics, marketing, hospitality, and transport.
In 2024, the men’s and women’s tours collectively accounted for nearly 6,000 hotel nights, with sponsors providing 90 vehicles and employing about 1,000 individuals across various roles.
Over the years, the tour has seen cycling champions including Slovenia’s Primoz Roglic, who won the inaugural edition in 2019, Britain’s Adam Yates, who won the seventh stage in 2020, and UAE’s Tadej Pogačar, who claimed back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel won the 2023 edition, followed by compatriot Lennard Kämna in 2024.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized the UAE Tour’s role as a platform for showcasing the nation’s social, cultural, and economic achievements to millions worldwide.
Al Awani highlighted the pride in reaching the tour’s seventh edition, which is set for February 2025, and credited its success to year-round collaborative efforts.
Fabrizio D’Amico, UAE Tour Director, highlighted the tour’s growth over the years, attributing its global success to the robust support from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and efficient logistical planning.
D’Amico, expressed confidence in the event’s continued rise as one of the premier cycling competitions in the world.
The upcoming edition promises to uphold the UAE Tour’s legacy, welcoming top global cycling stars to compete while celebrating the UAE’s excellence on the world stage.
