WASHINGTON (25News Now) – The Force was strong at Washington Community High School Saturday during the 9th annual STEAM into Star Wars event.
Event organizers are trying to get the community interested in math, science, technology, and art, all with a Star Wars theme to make it more fun.
There were costumed characters from a galaxy far, far away roaming the school. Booths had stories, skits, or other activities for kids too short to be a stormtrooper.
Some heroes of this event were the roughly 45 student volunteers.
“One thing I love about running this program for [the volunteers] is that this is a great resume builder for them. They get to do all this organization and work with the public. They can put these sorts of things on a resume: that they’ve helped to coordinate a community event,” said Tom Gross, WCHS librarian and director of the event.
Student volunteers helped with setup, ran games, and gave visitors information.
This year, the event added gaming to the mix of activities for participants, with over 600 board games for people to choose from. Adults could also find podcast hosts to meet and art for sale.
