Donald Trump already has a star set to perform at his upcoming inauguration. Country music star and American Idol alum Carrie Underwood will sing for the swearing-in ceremony. A few of the other musical performances planned for the event have also been revealed.
Carrie Underwood Was Previously Named In A Leaked Program
Trump previously served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Winning the 2024 election, he is set to be inaugurated as the 47th president on January 20, 2025.
For Trump’s first inauguration, “Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” concert was held on January 19, 2017. Musical performances included Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, and Lee Greenwood.
According to TMZ, a representative for the presidential inauguration committee confirmed that Underwood would sing “a patriotic tune” before the president-elect is sworn in.
As the publication noted, the singer’s name was previously listed in a leaked program listing the show order. TMZ later confirmed the copy was authentic.
Underwood is expected to perform “America the Beautiful.” She will be accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
Carrie Underwood Has Performed Patriotic Songs For Previous Events Over The Years
Underwood is notably set to perform after the Vice-Presidential Oath of Office is administered to JD Vance. This will also take place before Trump is sworn in and gives his inaugural address.
According to the leaked program’s show order, the events will start with a musical prelude from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combined Choirs. The United States Marine Band will then perform “The President’s Own.” Christopher D. Macchio is also set to perform, “Oh, America!” during the event.
Notably, Underwood already has some background performing patriotic songs at various events over the years, notably at sport events. This includes performing the National Anthem for Super Bowl XLIV and the “Star-Spangled Banner” at Game 4 of the 2005 NBA Finals.
As the publication noted, many singers have performed “alternative patriotic [tunes]” over the years. Back in 1993, Barbra Streisand sang “God Bless America” for Bill Clinton’s inauguration. Ray Charles previously sang “America the Beautiful” for Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration.
Underwood first rose to prominence after winning the fourth season of American Idol. Since then, she has served as a prominent country music star and is considered one of the best-selling music artists of all time. With the new year, Underwood is also notably set to make her return to American Idol, the series that have the star her start, as a judge.
