Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi Monday said that he would promote Cambodia’s social stability, security, and positive developments to Japanese citizens, tourists, and business communities.
The assurance was given following a request made by Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, to help increase the promotion of tourism destinations and the real situation in Cambodia to Japanese people and tourists to attract more visitors to the Kingdom.
According to a statement from the ministry, Hak and Ambassador Ueno exchanged views to enhance the promotion of tourism potential between both countries through participation in the Japan Expo 2025 in Osaka.
“Discussions focused on boosting collaboration to establish direct flights between Cambodia and Japan, organizing Familiarization Trips (FAM Trips) for the private tourism sectors of both countries, and producing joint promotional tourism videos to increase the visibility of tourism opportunities in both nations,” the statement added.
These efforts aim to further expand the sale of travel packages between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Japan Expo 2025 in Osaka will be held from April 13-October 13, 2025 under the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’ with an expected participation of approximately 28 million visitors.
The ministry also stated that Japan’s registration for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, was approved at the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) on December 1, 2020. The Government of Japan has extended invitations to the governments of other countries and regions, as well as international organizations.
As of late December 2024, a total of 158 countries, regions, and international organizations, including Cambodia, have confirmed their participation in the expo.
Secretary of State and Spokeswoman for the MoT Hun Dany told Khmer Times that the minister has been fulfilling his duties with a spirit of cooperation alongside ministries, relevant institutions, the private sector, and especially embassies in Cambodia to attract more foreign investors and tourists to the country.
She said that peace and security are essential factors that ensure foreign tourists of all nationalities feel warm, safe, and comfortable when they choose to travel to Cambodia.
Dany said that in 2024, Cambodia welcomed 6.7 million international tourists, marking 23 percent increase compared to 2023 and further aims to welcome approximately 7 million international tourists this year.
It may be recalled that the Cambodian Embassy in Japan in collaboration with the ASEAN-Japan Center plans to organise the ‘Cambodia Foods Show’, which scheduled to be held at the Cambodian Embassy in Japan on February 21, 2025.
The event aims to promote Khmer cuisine and potential Cambodian products, as well as to advance Cambodian culinary diplomacy and the import and export activities of Cambodian goods under the economic diplomacy strategy.
