TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo man said trash from the Amoco gas station in his neighborhood is being dumped in his backyard.
“They are doing illegal dumping in my backyard,” Timothy Taylor, who lives on Monroe Street, said. “It’s coming from the Amoco gas station at the corner of Monroe and Auburn.”
It’s not just Taylor’s yard, there’s another pile in his next-door neighbor’s yard. Taylor said they both appeared about a week ago.
“I talked to the contractor at the gas station. He admitted that it came from their store,” Taylor said. “The guy was supposed to come and pick it up. They did not.”
Now, his frustrations are growing.
“Clean it up. Get it up. It’s their stuff. It’s not mine,” he said. “So, I’m just reaching out to 13 ABC to see if I can get some help.”
The I-TEAM got on the phone with a man who identified himself as the gas station’s manager; he did not provide his name.
He admitted the trash did come from his store.
He said the business is being renovated and set to open up soon. He paid someone to clean out the business and he said that person must have dumped the trash.
At first, he was reticent to take responsibility for the mess.
“I’m wondering if you, as a manager, as a business owner, would be willing to take responsibility for this and do something to make it right for this homeowner,” I-TEAM Reporter Sophie Bates said while on the phone with him, “because you admitted it is your trash.”
The manager later said he would work out a solution with Taylor.
The I-TEAM will be following up to make sure that happens.
