Maluu, North Malaita – David Kona, the owner and operator of a local meat processing and packaging business in Malu’u, Malaita shared insights into his inspiring journey despite feeling unwell and unable to speak directly.
“My motivation for starting this business stems from my desire to support the community and promote locally sourced food products,” David said.
Operating out of the Fisheries Center Building in Malu’u downtown, David’s business offers high-quality beef mince from locally raised cattle and carefully packaged pork chops – all at affordable prices that fit your pocket money.
David explained that the meat is sourced directly from local farmers, ensuring freshness and quality at every step.
“We process, package, and sell our products locally to encourage the community to value homegrown goods instead of relying on imports,” he added.
While his business has grown steadily, David acknowledged the challenges he faces, including the high cost of production and limited resources.
“Despite these obstacles, I am determined to keep moving forward because I believe in creating opportunities for my people.”
In terms of community impact, David’s initiative has provided a platform for local farmers to sell their livestock and has encouraged the people of Malu’u to support sustainable practices.
He expressed gratitude for the positive feedback from customers, which motivates him to explore new product lines and expand his services in the future.
As for his vision, David hopes to grow the business to serve neighboring areas and eventually introduce online ordering and delivery.
“My goal is not just about business success, but about contributing to the economic development of our region,” he concluded.
David’s story is a reminder of the potential for growth and innovation within the Solomon Islands when local businesses are supported. Residents can visit his store at the Malu’u Fisheries Center to purchase fresh, locally processed meat products at affordable prices.
