The Garden District Book Shop in New Orleans will feature Carnival books for little readers and listeners during story times in January and February.
The Mardi Gras Storytime Series kicks off with Abby Roniger’s “Carnival Time in My Mind,” which tells in verse form the traditions of family-friendly Mardi Gras. It will be read Jan. 18, 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., Monica Vaughn-Flam will read her book, “The Wheels on the Float,” with a sing-along to the familiar tune.
On Jan. 25, Erin Rovin will read the story about young and old oak trees, “The Little Bead Tree,” at 11 a.m.
“Rise and Shine It’s Mardis Gras Time” by Alexandra Navarre Davis tells the story of Petite Float and her papa. It will be the featured book on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m.
On Feb. 15, Brenda Robert will read about Mardi Gras shoebox floats with “King of the Shoebox Parade” at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., Melissa Thibault will close out the series with “12 Days of Mardi Gras,” a new take on the familiar holiday song.
The shop is located in The Rink at 2727 Prytania St. in New Orleans. Story times are free.
