The Oscar-shortlisted film Anuja is set to make its worldwide debut on Netflix, allowing viewers globally to witness the moving drama. The film tells the story of a young girl’s courage and the tough choices she must make for her future.
It centres around 9-year-old Anuja, who works in a backstreet garment factory with her older sister, Palak. As the plot unfolds, she faces a life-altering decision that will affect not only her own future but also the lives of those she cares about.
The film delves into various themes such as hope, resilience, and the struggles faced by underprivileged children forced to work at a tender age. Directed by Adam J. Graves, the film stars Sajda Pathan, Ananya Shanbhag, Nagesh Bhonsle, Gulshan Walia and Sushil Parwana.
High-profile celebrities like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Mindy Kaling and Guneet Monga Kapoor have expressed their support for the impactful film.
It premiered at the HollyShorts Film Festival on August 17, 2024, and was shortlisted for Best Live Action Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards in December last year.

Since then, it has won the Audience Award for Short Film at the Montclair Film Festival before Netflix secured the distribution rights earlier this month, reports Surrey Live.
The short film currently holds an impressive 8.6 rating on IMDb from early viewers.
Guneet, one of the film’s producers, has openly thanked Netflix for giving their movie a chance to connect with audiences worldwide.
Mindy, sharing her producer credits, remarked: “It’s powerful, hopeful, and full of life, just like the incredible young girls it represents.”

After being captivated by its inspiring story, Bollywood heavyweight Priyanka couldn’t help but come on board as an executive producer.
She took to Instagram stories recently, expressing pride in a post about the film making the Oscar shortlist with the caption: “Proud of this beautiful film.”
The filmmaking process was bolstered by partnerships with community groups including Salaam Baalak Trust, an Indian non-profit that aids street and working kids in Delhi.
