WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – A beloved spot for canoeing along the Little Miami River is closing to become a nature preserve.
After 60 years in business, Morgan’s Canoe and Outdoor Adventures announced the closure of its Ohio operations Jan. 15.
This announcement comes after the Susanne Geier Peters Foundation provided a grant to the Little Miami Conservancy (LMC) to purchase five properties owned by Morgan’s Canoe.
The properties, totaling 26 acres along the Little Miami River, will be transferred to the Ohio Department of National Resources (ODNR) to help with conservation efforts for the river.
Morgan’s Canoe, owned by the Morgan family since the early 1960s, has “played a pivotal role in providing access and stewardship of the Little Miami River,” the announcement reads.
“The Morgan brothers, our wives, and families would like to personally thank each and every one of our guests who have supported our family business and the Little Miami for these many years. It has been an incredible journey, and while we will no longer be operating along the Little Miami River, our commitment to conservation remains steadfast. We are grateful to the Little Miami Conservancy, ODNR, and the Susanne Geier Peters Foundation for helping us ensure the future of the river.”
Although the Ohio side of the Morgan family business is closing, the Brookville, Indiana, location on the Whitewater River will continue to offer guests canoeing and outdoor experiences for guests.
