The Sindh government will intensify efforts for promoting movies, dramas and documentaries while encouraging artists and playwrights to raise public awareness, showcase local talent, and develop narratives opposing terrorism and extremism.
Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon said this on Wednesday while chairing the first meeting of the Content and Production Oversight Board. He emphasised the importance of encouraging new filmmakers and playwrights.
The meeting was attended by Information Secretary Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, DG (PR) Saleem Khan, Director of Films Hizbullah Memon, and Deputy Director Sarang Latif Chandio. Board members Qazi Asad Abid, Warda Salim, Nimra Malik, Azan Sami Khan and Hassan Asghar Naqvi were also present.
Memon stated that the Sindh government was committed to promoting drama, film and other creative works to foster democratic values and cultivate a healthy society in the province. He said the Content and Production Oversight Board aimed at driving social development through creative arts.
He said the board would approve financial support for new writers and production houses wanting to produce innovative dramas and films.
Saleem Khan provided an overview of the objectives and policy guidelines for establishing the Content and Production Oversight Board.
Abid praised the Sindh government’s efforts to establish the board and make it operational within a short timeframe. He said the primary objective of the board was to promote new talent.
The participants of the meeting discussed ways to enhance the effectiveness of the board. Separately, Memon also presided over a meeting of the newly appointed spokespersons for the Sindh government.
The meeting discussed issues related to enhancing the provincial government’s communication strategy and effectively addressing public concerns.
The meeting was attended by Ganhor Khan Isran, Heer Soho, Nadir Nabil Gabol, Sukhdev Asardas Hemnani, Buland Khan Junejo, Seemta Afzal Syed, Syed Tahseen Abidi, Syeda Aqraba Fatima, Mustafa Abdullah Baloch and the information secretary.
The participants discussed strategies for effective publicity of the government’s narrative, promotion of media relations and public welfare projects by the Sindh government.
The information minister remarked that being a government spokesperson was a huge responsibility. He added that the Sindh government wanted the people to be fully aware of its projects for them.
He said the spokespersons should ensure that the people were well informed about the government’s efforts and programmes. He asserted that the Sindh government was committed to public service, and the Pakistan Peoples Party had always prioritised the welfare of the people.
The spokespersons would have to play an important role in combating misinformation and highlighting the government’s achievements, Memon said, adding that all the government spokespersons should work as a coordinated team. He also directed them to focus on social media, and ensure transparency and effective communication to maintain trust with the people of Sindh.
