ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Hussein Mwinyi has emphasised that the government’s major goal is to create a favourable business and investment environment to support new initiatives and innovations in the country.
This was one of the key points shared by Dr Mwinyi during his meeting with Tanzania’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Nigeria, Celestine Kakele, who visited the Zanzibar State House at Mnazi Mmoja to introduce himself and bid farewell before departing for his new work station.
Dr Mwinyi informed the High Commissioner that the government has been implementing various reforms aimed at fostering a competitive environment to increase the number of new enterprises and attract foreign investors.
“A favorable business and investment environment will drive development through innovation and digital transformation. As you represent our country, economic diplomacy should be a priority, focusing on attracting serious investors to invest in Tanzania,” Dr Mwinyi stated.
The President highlighted the untapped economic and investment opportunities that could encourage greater collaboration between Zanzibar/ Tanzania and Nigeria.
He urged Ambassador Kakele to prioritise tourism and investment, which are key sectors driving Zanzibar’s economy.

Dr Mwinyi also spoke about the government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers to cooperation and investment between Tanzania and Nigeria.
He stressed that trade is another vital area where both countries could benefit, emphasizing the importance of promoting intra-African trade.
“For too long, many West African products have been exported outside the continent but remain unavailable in East Africa. This is an area that needs focus to enhance regional trade,” he said.
The president mentioned Zanzibar’s abundant marine resources, including fish and seafood, as potential products for trade between the two nations, encouraging the High Commissioner to actively attract investors to Zanzibar and Tanzania.
In his response, Ambassador Kakele highlighted Nigeria’s position as a large, economically vibrant country with significant investment opportunities.
He also suggested strengthening the visa processes between the two countries to facilitate smoother movement and collaboration.
Both President Mwinyi and Ambassador Kakele concluded their brief meeting by reaffirming their commitment to removing obstacles that hinder sustainable communication and cooperation between Tanzania and Nigeria.
