When travelling, it is important to consider the safety of your destination, evaluating the accommodations on offer and ensuring your welfare while also representing your company. Inclusivity and access to support are imperative for all travellers, but especially female travellers who may be more vulnerable than their male colleagues. Prioritising well-being promotes focus and success in business when travelling for corporate events.
With this in mind, Good Travel Management conducted a study into the safest cities across the globe for female travellers, researching over 45 capital cities to pinpoint their female safety records and the reviews of the facilities likely to impact visitors to find the most recommended place for female safety.
Top 10 Safest Cities for Female Business Travellers
Bern has the top spot as the safest city for female business travellers, achieving the overall score of 9.04, with high scores across each metric, especially when focusing on the reviews and ratings of the city. However, the Swiss capital ranks the highest in women’s safety with 9.9 out of 10, which focuses on the country’s indicators across female inclusion, education and security.
In second place is Wellington in New Zealand with 8.11 overall due to a high score in pay gap parity with 8.7 out of 10 and a high percentage of female workforce participation at 66.9%.
Amsterdam in the Netherlands is next, with an overall score of 7.86, ranking highly for women’s safety and its average taxi rating.
In 4th is Stockholm with 7.63 and in 5th is Vienna with 7.45. Stockholm has the highest score for women’s safety, joint with Bern, and high scores for pay gap parity and female workforce participation, while Vienna has high metrics across co-working spaces and taxi ratings.
Berlin is 6th with 7.36 overall and the Spanish capital follows closely with 7.33.
Oslo, the second Scandinavian country to make the top 10, is 8th with an overall score of 7.16, with the maximum score for pay gap parity with 10 out of 10.
Paris is next with 7.14 overall, with high averages across the ratings for the city.
In 10th is Canberra with strong scores for women’s safety and female workforce, along with co-working space ratings.
Top 20 Safest Cities for Female Business Travellers
European countries have taken up 70% of the top 20 countries, but Ottawa and Washington D.C. come in at 11th with 7.07 and 13th with 6.98 respectively, with high ratings for co-working spaces and proportion of well-reviewed hotels.
Ireland’s capital is at 12th, with a high score for women’s safety at 9.1 and a high score for pay gap parity at 7.6 out of 10.
In next place is Lisbon in Portugal, closely followed Washington D.C. They had overall scores of 6.982 and 6.979 respectively.
Brussels of Belgium follows with 6.96, with a high score in women’s safety of 9.8.
For the final five, Helsinki, Finland’s capital, comes at 16th with 6.88 overall, but with the highest score in pay gap parity with 10 out of 10.
Next is Abu Dhabi with an overall score of 6.69, but with one of the higher scores in female participation in the latter rankings with 55.3%.
The 18th spot goes to Cape Town with an overall score of 6.68, with a good score for well-reviewed hotels at 56.2%.
Rounding off the list in 19thplace is the UK’s capital London with 6.62, with good scores across gender concern metrics, while Athens in Greece completes the top 20 with a score of 6.43.
